I've never trusted those beds with the buttons anyway. Last time I was in hospital I found the switch thing very complicated to use.

No did not test as ice went on to freeze like a rink so stayed in till it thawed.My dad in law had chains on his boots at the time and was still slipping about so was not confident.Elastic bands sound a good idea.
